My research addresses questions in the philosophy of perception and epistemology through phenomenology, but it is pluralistic in method: I treat phenomenology as a resource enriched by dialogue with analytic philosophy, critical theory, and the history of philosophy. I also test phenomenological claims against concrete cases like dementia, color vision, and stereotyping.
Representation and Awareness: A Phenomenological Sketch. Under contract with Routledge. It argues that perceptual awareness lacks a vehicle, and that no satisfactory account of phenomenal character lets perception be both representational and direct.
